My Hands 04:03
My Hands Music and Lyrics by Juan C Gonzalez Speak up and show me your teeth. In the silence is where you’ll be. Getting off at the way you treat me. Grinning cheek to cheek. Well my hands are getting bloody. Why can’t you just be my buddy? Well my hands are getting bloody. Why can’t you just be my buddy? Are you real or are you faking? I don’t feel right on my side. Living two lives. Which one is going to die? Well my hands are getting bloody. Why can’t you just be my buddy? Well my hands are getting bloody. Why can’t you just be my buddy? I just don’t see why…

Turtle Stand 03:20
Turtle Stand Music and Lyrics by Nicholas Alexander Emiliozzi Come and take a look at my turtle stand. All my turtles clean. They fit in your hands. I see it coming, coming. Heart’s beating, hurry, hurry. Turtle hurry car behind you. Stick your head out he might find you. Come and take a look at my turtle stand. All my turtles clean. They fit in your hands. I see it coming, coming. Heart beating, scurry, worry. If he grabs you I might bite you. Snatch you up and then he’ll tag you. Tag you. Tag. Tag. Tag. Tag.

Paper Neck 05:16
Paper Neck Music and Lyrics by Alexander Brian Cheine Misty salt water splashes up and catches my face and it reminds me of a feeling I’ve had many times. Just a reminder of the feeling to let me know That something good is coming. Hopefully something good… I just want… I still feel out of place. Even in the places I thought I was comfortable. I’m a dissident dude, just like you. Sanders, can I relate to you? Do your ideas float just like mine? Or can you never understand? Do we have the exact same problems? Or do you hate me?

Shadow Lawn 03:45
Shadow Lawn Music and Lyrics by Hector Alexander Fontanet and Juan Carlos González Do you read me? Loud and clear. Just like the others used to do… And all your friends? They can stay… Just remind them all to behave. And when I see them, standing in the sun. Makes me wanta run to my shadow lawn. And all the people. All the people. All the people. All the people. All the people. All the people. Stop and stare even though there’s nothing there. And the shallow kids, and their shady ways, and their hallow tricks, and their shadow games. And when you see them, you better run back to your shadow lawn. All the people. All the people. All the people. All the people. All the people. All the people. All the people. All the people.

Memory’s a Ghost Music and Lyrics by Hector Alexander Fontanet Memory is a Ghost. Always forget the times we love the most. Don’t even start on them girls. Cataloguing chapters of what it’s worth. You want me to stay forever young? But darling life somehow stopped being fun. Now that you mention I guess I miss it. If I ever have kids I hope they witness it too… Encountering circles in the night. Hoping no one looks into our eyes. Resembling the Spartan from the party. I suppose the next one will have to be on me. If I recall you used to be shy. But now your hair is green and you’re with some guy Who reminds me of Peter O’Toole, Dancing to songs and ripping the bong. Just some gamblers, doubling down. Fiending for another chance to break even. Holidays fade. Fossils in the sand. Depleted recollections. Abandoned plans. What about the time brother we got lost? Mama wanta know why we had hit a swamp. This memory of mine, it’s a ghost. Pretending to remember is just for show. Now that you mention I guess I missed it. If I ever have kids I hope they witness A new planet get formed through hardworking molecules and violent combustion. And colonist radicals who send their kids without guilty inflections. Now that you mention I guess I missed it. I guess I missed it. Now that you mention I guess I missed it.

Steep Your Body Music and Lyrics by Nicholas Alexander Emiliozzi and Alexander Cheine The only thing I ate today was the pizza I ate yesterday. The only thought that occurred, that occurred was the choking feeling of the pit. Feed me, I’m empty. Need trees, more than trees I need an exorcist. Fill me need, feel your greed. Put your teeth back and shove them in your gums. You can steep your body. You can change your views. You can learn a new religion. You can choose to care about that or care about your friends, Instead. I would! Don’t need to tell me I’m a mess. Don’t wait around for me to crack. I have no idea what I’ll do, in an accidental delusional rage. I think I see you, see you next. Don’t wait around for me to crack. Shake your soda shake your head up. Drink your papaya juice. You can steep your body. You can change your views. You can learn a new religion. You can choose to care about that or care about your friends, Instead.

People Watcher Music and Lyrics by Hector Alexander Fontanet I’m not feeling lucky any more. Some guy’s glass eye is watching me through the door. And all of yesterday I blew it all away. Curly fingers crusty with clay. I’ll mold myself a new life on a rooftop, Far away from the milk and bread. Then I’ll hang myself on a spider web And watch the bugs get caught until I’m fed. I was feeling sorry for the sister who cared too much. Almost overdosing on placebo prescriptions. Still hear the clock ticking. Thunder-bell echoing through the corridors of our misgivings. I’m not feeling welcome any more. My neighbors don’t like my pet gargoyle. Mosquito’s business buzzing secrets Keeping up with this generation’s war. I’m not feeling all that satisfied any more. Am I running backwards through the mud? Relapsing on a pilgrim drug. And if we don’t die today Maybe tomorrow we’ll make up on our end of the bargain. Yeah, you see me locking eyes? I’m a People Watcher. Watching y’all from just atop the water, Gator’s glare. Wishful whispers. Money talked enough to shut you up. Making mirrors with the camera on my phone. Find my reflection. Deciphering deceptions. Holding on to what makes us ineffable. Think things get better? Keep thinking things get better. Watch out now in case it gets any better. Think things get better? Keep thinking things get better. Stay watching in case it gets any better. Think things get better? Keep thinking things get better. Watch out now in case it gets any better. Think things get better? Keep thinking things get better. Watch out now in case it gets any better. Find my reflection….

about

Phantom Phunk’s sophomore album, “Turtle Stand”, supplies a unique listening experience reminiscent to the analog 90’s sound found in groups like The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, and the Flaming Lips. The album documents an extremely personal side to the group, encapsulating the humility and skepticism of the members’ everyday lives. Despite the “everyday life” theme, the album as a whole is a relatively wild experience. It begins with “Back Seat Sax”, an instrumental that evokes the sensation of an adrenaline fueled get-away car chase. A string of heavy hitters follows suit with “My Hands”, “Sleepy Willow” and “Turtle Stand” sweeping through a spectrum of moods. The second half of the LP offers some more upbeat moments with “Memory’s a Ghost” and “Steep Your Body”, yet, clearly differs from the first half with its more somber tone, dense layering, and moments of musical abstraction. The overall effect is a curious compound of exhilaration and broodiness that feels genuine and relatable.
