about

Coming out of the gates with tracks from their second album, Phantom Phunk’s People Watcher is an Alt-Rock asteroid smashing against our atmosphere. With a pumped out bass line and grinding guitars, it’s everything we have come to expect from the Phunk, and some. The feel of the song falls more in line with the sound of 90’s pop-rock giants like Green Day and Weezer, yet remains distinguished by its unexpected structure and compelling lyrical content. The verses flaunt a sharp sense of sarcasm that naturally converges with the slightly more diabolical overtones of the choruses. Yet, as effectively as they hold their train of thought, the lyrics flex the same capacity to disrupt itself and diverge instead, into a completely alternate, though parallel, layer of moods. Depictive as the lyrics are, their effect is only compounded by the abrasive expression found within Phantom Phunk’s secondary vocalist, Hector’s delivery—who takes the tune’s musing so far as to come off as almost provocateur; both beckoning and instigating his audience’s attention; calling to them to “find [his] reflection” by “making mirrors with the camera on [their] phones”. People Watcher is without a doubt an anthem that will resonate with this generation of rock n’ rollers .

lyrics

People Watcher
Music and Lyrics by Hector Alexander Fontanet

I’m not feeling lucky any more.
Some guy’s glass eye is watching me through the door.
And all of yesterday I blew it all away.
Curly fingers crusty with clay.

I’ll mold myself a new life on a rooftop,
Far away from the milk and bread.
Then I’ll hang myself on a spider web
And watch the bugs get caught until I’m fed.

I was feeling sorry for the sister who cared too much.
Almost overdosing on placebo prescriptions.
Still hear the clock ticking.
Thunder-bell echoing through the corridors of our misgivings.

I’m not feeling welcome any more.
My neighbors don’t like my pet gargoyle.
Mosquito’s business buzzing secrets
Keeping up with this generation’s war.
I’m not feeling all that satisfied any more.

Am I running backwards through the mud?
Relapsing on a pilgrim drug.
And if we don’t die today
Maybe tomorrow we’ll make up on our end of the bargain.

Yeah, you see me locking eyes?
I’m a People Watcher.
Watching y’all from just atop the water,
Gator’s glare.

Wishful whispers. Money talked enough to shut you up.
Making mirrors with the camera on my phone.
Find my reflection. Deciphering deceptions.
Holding on to what makes us ineffable.

Think things get better?
Keep thinking things get better.
Watch out now in case it gets any better.
Think things get better?
Keep thinking things get better.
Stay watching in case it gets any better.
Think things get better?
Keep thinking things get better.
Watch out now in case it gets any better.
Think things get better?
Keep thinking things get better.
Watch out now in case it gets any better.

Find my reflection….
